The Bernese Oberland

Returning to Switzerland was very exciting, realising we could actually afford to eat and drink this time! Yippee. We landed in Zurich and immediately got on the train towards Interlaken, where we would begin our hiking adventure. Sure, Switzerland is expensiiiiive. BUT, everything works like clockwork and boy did we appreciate that after being on Spanish time for 3.5 years. Information desk people were answering your questions before you had even formulated them in your brain and train conductors were apologising for 30 second delays! Oh, the joy! Hooray, rain! After a walk around Interlaken in the rain, we returned home for a quiet night in. There we were, in a nice hotel room with beautiful crisp white sheets and what looked like freshly painted walls... Why not celebrate with a bottle of red wine??? No bottle opener? No problem!  And as I looked up to see Brad forcing the cork into the bottle with a butter knife with brute force, right next to the ...

It's been a long time coming

We're back! I see that almost 2 years have flown by since I wrote an entry - has anyone noticed that time moves more quickly once you turn 30?! Anywhooo. I won't bore you with the in between bits, but I thought I would get back on the horse for the last year of our European adventure, yayyyyy. We begin our story in the land of deer and wolves and bears (oh my?), Slovakia.  Off we set with our high quality Chinese made, ebay bought fishing rods shoved into a backpack (so that we didn't have to pay Ryan Air for extra baggage, obviously). Ryan air supplied its usual selection of gourmet non - vegetarian food for our early morning flight to Krakow, Poland. My piece of panini with the remnants of melted cheese (which all came off with the transference of ham to Brad) was simply to die for. Beautiful Slovakia We had flown into Krakow as there was a direct flight there from Gran Canaria and our fishing adventure was to begin only a short 2 hour drive over the border into Slovakia....
