Operation Italy

We were back on Italian soil after a few days in lovely Croatia (and possible fines from unwittingly driving on Slovenian toll roads without a pass).      Gondola Traffic First stop, Venice! When asked to sum up Venice in three words Brad replied, "overcrowded, overpriced, overrated". I, on the other hand, can appreciate fine architecture and culture when I see it. It is an amazing city! We bypassed the €80 gondola ride, opting instead to pose in front of those who had forked out for the experience. Bologna, the home of lasagne and bolognese, was our next stop (for lunch of course) and then onto Florence. Not only was the city stunning but the showers at our campsite were the best yet! What a fine specimen... David´s not too bad either... Wandering the streets of Florence Like a good former St Francis of the Fields student, we visited Assisi on our way to Rome. It ended up being one of the highlights, a little mediev...

The economy of slams...the story of a boy with no tent.

We've been camping around Europe since the wedding. I use the word 'camping' very loosely as some would not consider amenities such as beauty rooms, gourmet bakeries and wifi to be very camp-ish.   It was after our first night that Michael coined the phrase 'the economy of slams'.  You see, we had returned late to our campsite and everyone in our 'intimate' campsite was asleep in their tents barely meters away. Michael started setting up his bed (the front seat of the Peugot) including curtains made out of nearby items of clothing. This involved a few too many door slams which loudly echoed through the silent campsite... and then in and around the surrounding mountains and valleys waking neighbouring provinces from their slumber. No one was asleep once Michael curled up in his reclined front seat that night. Michael enjoys some time lying flat (yap! yap!) The Wedding

Keeping true to the weather forecast, we woke to pouring rain on the day of the wedding. Getting ready... As is tradition, the Wilkin contingency found themselves lost on the way to the church and we thought we might actually miss the wedding. Luckily, we spotted the bridal car driving past and were able to follow the bride and groom to the church. We made it just in time to run in and take our seats before Tom and Fausta entered the church. Just before the ceremony, the clouds cleared and we were treated to sunshine. It was perfect timing. The ceremony was held at a little church just outside Fausta's home town with a lovely view of the lake. The ceremony was in Italian and we followed along with our English booklet. We were all very impressed with Tom's vows, spoken in full Italian! Ruth topped it off with the Ave Maria which was excellent and the locals loved it.
