Since returning from overseas in June, we have battled our way through winter. We hadn't experienced a winter in two years and hadn't work for a year upon our return, so let's just say it has been a looooong six months.
Looking for jobs, finding jobs, working jobs, hating jobs, spending all income to compensate for hating jobs, realizing you need money to survive, getting more jobs, quitting jobs and so on and so forth. The discussion of whether or not Brad should take the job in West Africa, fly in fly out from the Canary Islands, went as follows:
Brad:
"So, I have been offered a job in West Africa on a two year contract. There is an option for me to do fly in fly out from the Canary Islands, so we could live there if we wanted?"
Kath:
"Where is that? Let me google it...."
And this, my friends, is what came up when I entered "Canary Islands" into Google. You should try it, it is quite a joyous experience:
........Approximately 20 seconds later, I told Brad I wanted to move there IMMEDIATELY......
For those of you who think of North Queensland or some tax haven off Europe, as I did when I first heard about the Canary Islands, let me clear it up for you. The Canary Islands are a group of Spanish volcanic islands, 90 kilometers west of Morocco. They are right here:
See? Very random. We will be living on the island Gran Canaria, in its capital, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. And can you see Mauritania over there in Africa? Right on the edge of the Sahara, that is where Brad is working.
So, all of this brings me to now. Six months after returning from the trip of a lifetime, sitting in business class, sipping on champagne in my Qatar Airways PJ's, headed for SPAIN. To LIVE. For at least TWO YEARS. On the way to meet my HUSBAND.
Two questions are now crossing my mind: "I must be dreaming, right?" and "Will two jumbo jars of vegemite be enough???"
Yay, the blog is back!!
ReplyDeleteBon voyage. Love you. xo
It doesn't look any bigger than the Mauritania
